There are many different avenues for youth of all ages to contribute and serve in Boca Raton: service groups in neighborhoods and schools, youth organizations, congregations and in family units. Service is more likely to become a lifelong commitment when persons participate at different ages, through multiple avenues, and when opportunity is given for them to be involved in the planning, and to reflect on the service – hence, the term service-learning. It is especially enriching when youth and adults work together on projects.
Research suggests that service-learning experiences enhance self-esteem, and engagement with school, neighborhood, and family. With training and support, youth can choose from various types of service options in Boca Raton. The newly created Community Service Council provides opportunities for intergenerational planning and participation in many venues. Both adults and youth meet monthly at Sugar Sand Park.
Meetings are open to the public. Call 561-620-5460 or 395-3063.
